Fascias and soffits in uPVC, with new guttering to match
Fascias and soffits are the boards along the edge of the roof that hold the gutters and close off the eaves, and timber ones rot. Best Top Roofing replaces tired roofline with low-maintenance uPVC fascias, soffits and bargeboards and fits new guttering and downpipes, finishing the job off across Hertfordshire and Northamptonshire.
Painted timber fascias and soffits need repainting every few years, and when that stops happening the rot starts. The fascia softens where the gutter brackets are screwed in, the gutter drops out of line and overflows, water runs down behind the boards into the wall, and birds and wasps move into the gaps in the soffit. By the time the paint is flaking, the timber behind it is usually past saving.
We strip the old timber back to the rafter feet, check and repair the ends of the rafters, and fit new uPVC fascias, vented soffits and bargeboards. Replacing rather than capping over matters: cladding uPVC over rotten timber hides the problem without fixing it. The eaves get the right ventilation and, where the felt at the eaves has rotted away, a new eaves carrier so water runs cleanly into the gutter.
New guttering and downpipes go on at the same time, fixed to the new fascia at the right fall. White, black, anthracite grey and woodgrain finishes are available, and the roofline is a quick way to make a whole house look cared for.

Fascias, soffits and guttering: your questions answered
Should uPVC be fitted over my old fascias?
Only where the existing timber is completely sound, which is rare on an older house. Capping over rot traps it. We normally replace the timber completely.
How long does uPVC roofline last?
Quality uPVC fascias and soffits last decades and need nothing more than an occasional wash. They will not rot, warp or need painting.
Do you need scaffolding for fascias?
For most two-storey houses we use a scaffold or tower for safety and a good finish. The access is included in your fixed price.
Can you change the colour of my roofline?
Yes. White is the most popular, with black, anthracite grey and woodgrain also available to match windows and doors.
Can you just replace the gutters?
Yes. If your fascias are sound, we can fit new guttering and downpipes on their own.
